On November 17, Sofia University "St. Kliment Ohridski" organized an on-line information event dedicated to the pilot Community Research Awards that will be the focus of Project UniverCity, supported by Erasmus+ Programme. The event gathered together representatives of the Sofia University, the Ministry of Education and Science and the local partners - British Council-Bulgaria and RTP Foundation. The Rector Prof. Anastas Gergjikov greeted the team and declared the institutional support on behalf of the higher education institution. Deputy minister Ms Karina Angelieva, responsible for the state policies in the fields of higher education and science, discussed with the participants the innovative approach of UniverCity: supporting bottom-up initiatives, promoted by academics and activists to tackle problems, relevant to the local communities. The CRA pilot grants were looked at as an attempted to offer an alternative to the highly-centralized program management where target groups adapt to rigid administrative and political framework. In many cases actions that are flexible, agile and freed from administrative burdens could prove more efficient.
